29 min: Hakkinen improves in 2nd. He is still over half a second slower than David Coulthard.

28 min: Drivers are now on their final run. Top 6 - Coulthard, Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Villeneuve, Trulli and Verstappen.

26 min: Hakkinen tries dry tyres for a lap and switches back to wets.

25 min: Wurz improved to 16th while Salo improved his time but remains in 22nd position.

23 min: David Coulthard goes fastest with a time of 1:23.144.

22 min: Drivers are now switching to dry tyres as the track starts to dry with less than 10 minutes remaining in this session.

20 min: Jos Verstappen moves into 6th position and Fisichella moves into 8th.

19 min: All the drivers have set timed laps although Alexander Wurz and Mika Salo have very slow times so far. They are in 21st and 22nd positions at the moment.

18 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, Coulthard, M Schumacher, Villeneuve, Trulli, Barrichello, Zonta, Frentzen, R Schumacher and Verstappen.

17 min: Rubens Barrichello finally sets a competitive time and moves into 6th place with a time of 1:24.517.

15 min: Michael Schumacher moves into 3rd just 0.070 seconds behind Coulthard.

14 min: Jacques Villeneuve moves into 3rd with a time of 1:24.012. Top 6 - Hakkinen, Coulthard, Villeneuve, Trulli, M Schumacher and Zonta.

13 min: Hakkinen moves into first with a time of 1:23.852.

11 min: Coulthard improves to 1:23.911 while Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen move into 3rd and 4th.

10 min: Top 6 - Coulthard. Trulli, Verstappen, R Schumacher, Villeneuve and Fisichella.

10 min: Coulthard goes first with a time of 1:24.306.

7 min: Marc Gene sets a time of  1:33.905 while Frentzen and Fisichella are on their first timed laps.

6 min: Ralf Schumacher sets the first timed lap with a time of 1:25.470.
