45 min: Zonta improves and so does Villeneuve.

44 min: Jenson Button moves into 8th place 1.124 seconds off the pace.

43 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen continues his bad run as he spins and goes off into the gravel. His session is over and is he is down in 20th place!.

41 min: Final run for the drivers, only a second separates the top 6.

39 min: Both Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher fail to improve.

37 min: Jenson Button improves his time but not his position. Most drivers are now running qualifying trim.

35 min: Alexander Wurz takes a trip across the gravel but recovers. Johnny Herbert moves into 6th place while Barrichello moves into 5th.

34 min: Eddie Irvine improves again but remains in 5th, he is almost 1 second behind Coulthard.

32 min: David Coulthard goes fastest with a time of 1:38.106. Button fails to improve on his first timed lap.

31 min: Jenson Button starts his first timed lap this session. He only ran 4 laps in the first session today.

30 min: 15 minutes to go, top 10 - M Schumacher, Wurz, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Irvine, Barrichello, Trulli, R Schumacher, Herbert and Zonta.

28 min: Fisichella spins again but recovers. Mazzacane goes off into the gravel and retires.

27 min: Fisichella improves to 13th still over 1.5 seconds slower than his team-mate Alexander Wurz.

26 min: Jenson Button ready to go out after his car has been fixed.

24 min: Eddie Irvine improves his time slightly but remains in 5th place.

22 min: Ralf Schumacher improves to 7th while Diniz moves to 13th. Some drivers are starting to test qualifying trim.

20 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Wurz, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Irvine, Barrichello, Herbert, Zonta, Villeneuve and R Schumacher.

18 min: Frentzen sets a time of 1:40.551 in 19th place!

16 min: Frentzen is finally going out on the track. Button who also suffered a failure during the first session has not gone out yet.

14 min: Michael Schumacher goes fastest with a time of 1:38.203

12 min: Gaston Mazzacane is the first to improve but is still in 21st place ahead of Frentzen who has yet to set a time.

10 min: All the drivers in the top 10 have gone out but without improving. Frentzen has yet to go out.

8 min: No one manages to improve so far!

6 min: Both Hakkinen and Wurz go out on the track. They are followed by Jacques Villeneuve.

4 min: Jarno Trulli fails to improve and remains in 15th place. Jordan are struggling today. They need to improve dramatically if they want to grab 5th or 4th in the Constructors' championship.

2 min: Michael Schumacher goes out on the track.

Alexander Wurz was fastest in the 1st session. It is likely that he ran on qualifying trim. This session will give us a better  indication of how fast Wurz in the Benetton is here.
