38 min: David Coulthard retakes 2nd from Barrichello. Coulthard is 0.34 seconds behind Michael Schumacher.

37 min: Barrichello takes 2nd from Coulthard but is still half a second slower than Michael Schumacher.

35 min: Top 10 with 10 minutes remaining - M Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Villeneuve, Fisichella, Button, R Schumacher, Hakkinen, Salo and Zonta.

34 min: Jean Alesi sets his first timed lap of the day in 13th place. Trulli has yet to set a time as his car is being checked after his teammate Frentzen went off at Parabolica.

25 min: Michael Schumacher retakes top spot with a time of 1:24.435 while Zonta moves into 8th.

24 min: Alexander Wurz won't set a time this session as he suffered problems on the track while Trulli and Alesi have yet to set timed laps. Michael Schumacher returns to the track.

21 min: Mika Salo moves into the top 6 while Fisichella moves into 9th position just over a second off the pace.

19 min: Rubens Barrichello goes fastest only for Coulthard to go even faster. Both are the first 2 to go under the 1:25 mark.

17 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Villeneuve, Coulthard, Hakkinen, R Schumacher, Irvine, Button, Frentzen and de la Rosa.

16 min: Barrichello jumps into 2nd while Villeneuve moves into 3rd.
